The Ninja Flip SP151 is the toaster oven most people should buy in 2026. It costs $249.99, and TechGearLab’s kitchen testers gave it the top overall score in their toaster oven comparison, measuring 98% temperature accuracy and a 1.8-minute preheat to 350°F, the fastest time in that test group. Its hinged body flips up and locks flat against the wall when you are done cooking, which solves the biggest complaint about large countertop ovens: they eat counter space all day even when they are off. If your kitchen is small and you rarely cook more than a couple of servings, the $159.95 Breville Mini Smart Oven BOV450XL fits better; RTINGS measured it holding a stable temperature with no overshoot and browning toast evenly from edge to edge, though it only fits 4 slices and has no air fry mode.

Two more picks cover specific gaps. The Elite Gourmet ETO-4510MX ($124.99) is the one to buy for holiday cooking or a big household: its 45-liter interior, per Elite Gourmet’s own published specs, fits a 20-pound turkey or two 14-inch pizzas side by side, well beyond the capacity of any other oven here, though no independent lab has published cooking-performance data for this exact model. The Hamilton Beach Easy Reach 31334D ($59.99) is the budget pick; TechGearLab measured it holding an average of 345°F on a 350°F setting, matching or beating pricier ovens on temperature accuracy, even though its testers also found the back of the cooking chamber ran hotter than the front. Every pick on this list comes from published specs, certification databases and named third-party measurements, not from testing in our own lab; see how we score for the full method.

How we picked

We scored every toaster oven on five weighted criteria: cooking evenness (30%), interior capacity (20%), controls and presets (15%), build and warranty (15%), and 3-year cost of ownership covering purchase price plus electricity where the manufacturer publishes a wattage (20%).

For specs and pricing, we read the manufacturer’s own product page for each model: SharkNinja’s listing for the Flip SP151, Breville’s listing for the Mini Smart Oven BOV450XL, Hamilton Beach’s listing for the Easy Reach 31334D, and Elite Gourmet’s listing for the ETO-4510MX. For independent performance data, we relied on TechGearLab’s published toaster oven comparison, which measures preheat speed, temperature accuracy and toasting evenness on a shared test bench, and on RTINGS.com’s published review of the Breville Mini Smart Oven, which separately measures temperature overshoot and chamber uniformity. We priced every product directly on the brand’s own site on Sep 16, 2026, and we queried the CPSC recall database at saferproducts.gov for “toaster ovens” before including anything on this list; the only active toaster oven recall as of that date covers Panasonic’s NB-G200 FlashXpress line for shock and fire hazards, and none of the models below share that brand or model line. These picks come from published specs and independent lab data, not from testing in our own lab. See how we score for the full method.

What to look for

  • Preheat time matters more than the wattage printed on the box. TechGearLab measured the Breville Mini Smart Oven reaching 350°F in 1.7 minutes and the Ninja Flip SP151 in 1.8 minutes, both faster than the Hamilton Beach Easy Reach’s measured 2.4 minutes, even though all three list a similar wattage on their spec sheets.
  • Judge capacity by a real dish, not just a slice count. A “4-slice” oven from one brand is not always the same physical size as a “4-slice” oven from another; look for a stated pizza diameter or roast weight instead, like the Elite Gourmet ETO-4510MX’s documented 20-pound turkey and two 14-inch pizza capacity.
  • Look for independently measured temperature accuracy, not just a digital display. TechGearLab found the budget Hamilton Beach Easy Reach held 345°F on a 350°F setting, a smaller error than some ovens costing three times as much, so a low price does not automatically mean worse temperature control.
  • A removable crumb tray and dishwasher-safe accessories cut cleanup time. All four ovens in this guide ship with a removable crumb tray; the Elite Gourmet ETO-4510MX also includes a dishwasher-safe bake pan, 2 wire racks and rotisserie hardware.
  • Treat anything under a 1-year warranty as a red flag. The Ninja Flip SP151, Breville Mini Smart Oven and Elite Gourmet ETO-4510MX are each backed for 1 year by their manufacturers; Hamilton Beach does not list a warranty length on the Easy Reach 31334D product page.
  • Check the CPSC recall list by product name, not just by brand, before buying. Search saferproducts.gov for “toaster ovens”; the only current recall as of Sep 16, 2026 covers the Panasonic NB-G200 FlashXpress for shock and fire hazards.

FAQ

Are air fryer toaster ovens better than plain toaster ovens?

It depends on whether you want one extra cooking mode or a smaller footprint. The Ninja Flip SP151 and Elite Gourmet ETO-4510MX in this guide both add air fry or rotisserie functions on top of standard baking and broiling, while the Breville Mini Smart Oven and Hamilton Beach Easy Reach stick to bake, broil and toast only. If you specifically want a basket-style air fryer built into a full-size oven, see our best air fryer toaster ovens guide, or read our air fryer vs. convection oven comparison for how the two cooking methods differ.

How much electricity does a toaster oven use?

The two ovens in this guide with a published wattage, the Ninja Flip SP151 and the Breville Mini Smart Oven, both list 1,800W. At 30 minutes of daily use, that works out to about $167.54 in electricity over 3 years at a $0.17/kWh rate, on top of the purchase price. Hamilton Beach and Elite Gourmet do not publish a wattage figure for the Easy Reach 31334D or the ETO-4510MX, so we could not calculate an electricity estimate for those two models.

What is the difference between convection and standard toaster oven heat?

Convection models use a fan to circulate hot air around the food, which tends to brown food faster and more evenly than a standard toaster oven that relies on heating elements alone. The Elite Gourmet ETO-4510MX advertises a convection setting on top of its standard bake and broil modes, according to Elite Gourmet’s own product page; the Hamilton Beach Easy Reach 31334D has no convection fan.

Which toaster oven in this guide has the largest capacity?

The Elite Gourmet ETO-4510MX, with a 45-liter interior that Elite Gourmet says fits a 20-pound turkey or two 14-inch pizzas across its 4 rack positions. That is roughly triple the capacity of the smallest oven here, the 4-slice Breville Mini Smart Oven, which Breville lists at 0.5 cubic feet (14.16 liters).

Do toaster ovens need to be preheated?

Most benefit from it, especially for baking, but preheat times vary a lot by model. TechGearLab measured the Breville Mini Smart Oven reaching 350°F in 1.7 minutes and the Ninja Flip SP151 reaching the same temperature in 1.8 minutes, both fast enough for a quick reheat; the Hamilton Beach Easy Reach took a measured 2.4 minutes to hit the same mark in the same test.

What owners report

4.3 of 5 from 467 ratings on Breville store (Mini Smart Oven BOV450XL product page) read Sep 16, 2026

Ratings shown on a seller's own page can leave out reviews the seller removed. We read the most recent reviews ourselves and summarize what repeats.

  • +Reviewers switching from an older toaster oven repeatedly mention fast preheating and simple, uncluttered controls; one 5-star reviewer called the layout "very simple and functional" with no confusing buttons.
  • Of the 7 most visible reviews on the product page, 2 report uneven or one-sided toasting and 1 reports the printed control labels rubbing off after cleaning.

I bought this item a month ago, and found that it only toasted bread on one side. When I contacted customer support, I was disappointed to be told that the toaster was functioning as intended and was not designed to toast bread evenly.

Breville.com product review (Eli, 1 star), posted Jun 2023, accessed Sep 16, 2026

The design is very simple and functional; there aren't dozens of confusing buttons with complex functionalities. It looks great on the countertop and it works very well for so many things.

The specs that matter, in plain English

Convection
A fan inside the cooking chamber that circulates hot air around the food, which generally browns food faster and more evenly than radiant heat alone. The Elite Gourmet ETO-4510MX in this guide advertises a convection setting; the Hamilton Beach Easy Reach 31334D does not have one.
Overshoot
How far a toaster oven's actual internal temperature climbs past the setting you chose before it levels off. A lot of overshoot can burn the outside of food before the inside finishes cooking; RTINGS measured the Breville Mini Smart Oven as not overshooting its target temperature.
Flip-away storage
A hinge design, used on the Ninja Flip SP151, that lets the oven body fold up and rest flat against the wall behind it when not in use, reducing the counter footprint compared with a fixed-body oven of similar capacity.
Interior capacity (liters vs. quarts vs. slices)
Toaster oven capacity is marketed inconsistently: some brands list liters, some list quarts, and some just list a toast-slice count. 1 liter is about 1.057 US quarts. The Elite Gourmet ETO-4510MX is rated at 45 liters, about 47.6 quarts, by Elite Gourmet.
