We do not run these tests ourselves. Independent figures are quoted from the source named in each row.

Buy the COSORI 30L Smart Air Fryer Toaster Oven ($149.99) first. It posted the best temperature stability of any oven in this group in independent RTINGS lab testing, an average swing of just 14.5°F from its setpoint, plus the most evenly browned toast at maximum capacity of the three ovens RTINGS has tested here (93 percent evenly browned area), and a 173.6 square inch chamber that fits a 13 inch pizza or a whole chicken. Weighted across cooking evenness, capacity, controls, build, and 3 year cost, it comes out on top of this group at 8.3 out of 10, helped by a $149.99 price that keeps its 3 year cost of ownership under $320.

If you want the single biggest cooking chamber here, look at the Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro ($399.95) instead. RTINGS measured its chamber at 198.6 square inches, the largest of any oven in this guide, and it fits nine slices of bread at once behind a 2 year warranty. For the smallest counter footprint and the longest warranty, pick the Cuisinart Air Fryer Toaster Oven with Grill ($219.95), backed by a 3 year warranty and a reversible grill plate none of the others have. And if two level convection cooking without opening the door matters more to you than independent lab data (no outside lab has tested this specific model yet), the Ninja Prestige XL Countertop Oven and Air Fryer ($399.99) is worth a look. If you don’t need the air fry function at all, see our best toaster ovens guide instead.

How we picked

We scored each oven on five criteria: cooking evenness (30 percent), interior capacity (20 percent), controls and presets (15 percent), build and warranty (15 percent), and 3 year cost, meaning price plus electricity (20 percent). Full method at how we score.

We read the current listing on each brand’s own store, Cuisinart, Breville, SharkNinja for the Ninja Prestige line, and COSORI, then cross checked cooking performance against lab data from RTINGS, which has bought and bench tested the Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro, the Cuisinart TOA-70, and the COSORI CS130-AO on its own toaster oven test bench, and against TechGearLab’s published toaster oven scores where RTINGS hadn’t covered a model. We also queried the CPSC’s saferproducts.gov recall database for toaster oven recalls before finalizing this list. These are researched picks based on published specs and independent lab data from outside testers, not appliances that passed through our own kitchen.

What to look for

  • Chamber area in square inches, not just the quart number on the box. RTINGS measured the Breville’s chamber at 198.6 in², the COSORI’s at 173.6 in², and the Cuisinart’s at 136.6 in². If you want to fit a 9×13 baking sheet, look for at least 170 in².
  • Preheat time under 3 minutes if you’ll use it for quick reheats and snacks. RTINGS clocked the Cuisinart at 2:01 to reach 350°F and the COSORI at 3:04, while the larger Breville took 6:45.
  • Temperature stability within 20°F of the setpoint. The COSORI averaged a 14.5°F swing in RTINGS testing, the Breville averaged 38.3°F below its setpoint, and the Cuisinart overshot its setpoint 38.8 percent of its cooking time, according to RTINGS.
  • A warranty of at least 2 years. The Cuisinart carries 3 years, the Breville and COSORI carry 2, and the Ninja carries 1, the shortest of the four.
  • An air fry crispiness rate above 70 percent if air frying is your main use. RTINGS found the Breville produced 78 percent crispy fries, the Cuisinart 70 percent, and the COSORI 65.6 percent, with the rest of each batch undercooked rather than burnt in every case.
  • A PFAS free interior coating, if that matters to you. COSORI and Cuisinart both list their nonstick coatings as PFAS free on their own product pages; check the manual for any model you’re considering.

FAQ

What’s the real difference between an air fryer toaster oven and a basket air fryer?

A basket air fryer only air fries, in a smaller sealed drawer that heats up and crisps food faster. See our air fryer vs convection oven comparison for more on that tradeoff, or our best air fryers guide if speed matters more to you than versatility. An air fryer toaster oven trades some of that speed for a bigger chamber that also toasts, bakes, broils, and in the Cuisinart’s case, grills, so it can replace more countertop appliances at once.

Do I still need a separate toaster if I buy one of these?

Not for most people. All four ovens here toast bread directly on a wire rack, though RTINGS found toasting unevenly at maximum capacity is a common weak point across the category. The COSORI was the most even at max capacity in RTINGS’ testing, at 93 percent evenly browned, while the Breville and Cuisinart both toast much more evenly with only four slices loaded instead of a full batch.

How much does it actually cost to run one of these for a year?

At the U.S. average electricity rate of $0.17 per kWh and an assumed 30 minutes of daily use, an 1800 watt oven costs about $55.85 a year to run, or about $167.54 over 3 years, which is the electricity figure we add to the purchase price in the cost to own numbers above.

Which of these fits a whole chicken?

The COSORI and Cuisinart product pages both list a whole chicken as a fit for their chamber, and the Breville’s 7.1 inch usable interior height, measured by RTINGS, gives it enough vertical room too. Ninja doesn’t publish an interior height figure for the Prestige XL.

Are air fryer toaster ovens safe? Do they release harmful fumes?

These are standard electric countertop ovens. None of the four picks here appear on the CPSC’s saferproducts.gov recall list as of this writing, which we checked before publishing. If you’re specifically worried about PTFE or PFAS coatings, COSORI and Cuisinart both list their nonstick coatings as PFAS free, worth checking for any model before you buy. Cleaning routines are similar across brands; our how to clean an air fryer guide covers the basics that apply here too.

What owners report

4.6 of 5 from 7,203 ratings on Cuisinart store read Sep 16, 2026

Ratings shown on a seller's own page can leave out reviews the seller removed. We read the most recent reviews ourselves and summarize what repeats.

  • +A repeated compliment on Reddit's r/BuyItForLife thread about long-term countertop ovens is that the Cuisinart TOA-70 keeps working for years of daily use, with several owners reporting 3 or more years of dependable service.
  • A repeated complaint, echoed in both that Reddit thread and RTINGS' lab notes, is that the corners around the upper heating elements are hard to reach and get greasy fast.

I've used that Cuisinart for 3 years. Still going strong. There was a learning curve with temps but I really recommend it.

r/BuyItForLife, Jan 2026

Yes, cleaning is difficult. I have had the issue with the walls, but the door and bottom are tricky.

The specs that matter, in plain English

Chamber area
The usable floor area inside the oven in square inches, measured by independent labs like RTINGS. A better predictor of what actually fits than the marketing quart or liter number.
Convection
A fan that circulates hot air inside the oven, which cooks food faster and more evenly than a still-air toaster oven.
Temperature stability
How closely the oven holds the temperature you set during cooking. RTINGS measures this as average variation from the setpoint in degrees Fahrenheit.
Preheat reminder
An alert that tells you when the oven has reached its target temperature, useful on models that are slow to preheat.
PFAS
A class of synthetic chemicals sometimes used in nonstick coatings. Several brands in this guide advertise PFAS-free interior coatings.
