Levoit does not sell one filter for its whole lineup. The Core 300, the Core 400S-P, the Core 600S-P, and the Vital 100S and Vital 200S each take their own filter, and none of them are interchangeable. Before you buy anything, check the model number on the sticker on the back or base of the unit.

Which genuine filter fits your Levoit purifier

Levoit sells a separate, model-specific filter for each purifier line through its own store. Here is what levoit.com listed for the Core and Vital ranges as of this writing.

Your purifier Genuine filter Price on levoit.com
Core 300, Core 300-P, Core P350-P Core 300 Series Original Filter $29.99 for 1, or $54.99 for a 2-pack
Core 400S-P Core 400S-P 3-Stage Replacement Filter $49.99
Core 600S-P Core 600S-P Original Replacement Filter $59.99
Vital 100S-P Vital 100S Replacement Filter $39.99
Vital 200S-P Vital 200S Replacement Filter $49.99

Levoit also sells scent-focused versions of several of these filters, labeled Smoke Remover, Toxin Absorber, or Pet Allergy. They fit the same purifier and the same slot as the standard filter. The difference is the carbon blend, not the HEPA layer underneath it. If you own the Core 300 specifically, our Levoit Core 300 review covers how it performs with the standard filter installed.

How often does Levoit say to replace the filter

For the Core 300, Levoit’s own product page is specific: “We recommend replacing your filters every 6 to 8 months.” Across the rest of the Core and Vital lineup, Levoit’s filter guide gives a wider window, stating that “most air purifier filter replacements are needed every 6 to 12 months, depending on usage and indoor air quality.” Running the unit on a high fan speed most of the day, near pets, cooking smoke, or wildfire smoke pushes you toward the shorter end of that range. Light, occasional use in cleaner air can stretch it toward the longer end.

What the filter check indicator light actually means

The check-filter light runs on a timer, not a sensor. Levoit’s own maintenance guidance describes it as built “to come on after a certain period, usually between 6 and 12 months,” and says that once it lights up, the filter has reached the end of its assumed usable lifespan on that schedule, not a live reading of how loaded the filter media actually is. Check the filter by eye and by smell even if the light has not come on: a pre-filter mesh that looks gray or matted, a musty smell when the unit runs, or noticeably weaker airflow at your usual fan speed all mean it is time regardless of the timer.

How to replace a Levoit filter

  1. Confirm your exact model number on the sticker on the back or base of the unit, then order the matching filter from the table above.
  2. Turn the purifier off and unplug it before you open the housing.
  3. Open the filter compartment. Most Core and Vital models use a twist-lock ring or a panel that lifts off the back or bottom.
  4. Pull out the old filter and set it aside for disposal.
  5. Unwrap the new filter completely. Genuine Levoit filters ship inside a plastic sleeve, and leaving that sleeve on is a common reason a brand-new filter performs like a clogged one, since it blocks airflow through the media entirely.
  6. Seat the new filter with any airflow arrows or markings facing the direction air is pulled into the unit, then close the housing until it clicks or sits flush.
  7. Plug the unit back in and reset the filter-life timer. The control varies by model: non-connected Core units typically use a long-press on a physical button, while Wi-Fi connected S-series models reset from the filter setting inside the VeSync app. Check your printed manual for the exact control on your model.

Common mistakes that shorten filter life

  • Leaving the outer plastic wrap on the new filter, the single most common reason a fresh filter seems to do nothing.
  • Running the purifier on its lowest fan speed in a room far larger than it is rated for, which pulls the same air through less often and lets dust settle before it is captured.
  • Pushing the purifier against a wall or into a cabinet, which starves the intake side and loads the pre-filter unevenly.
  • Never vacuuming the washable pre-filter mesh between full filter changes, which lets large debris shorten the life of the HEPA layer underneath it.

Genuine vs compatible filters: what’s actually different

Third-party filters built for Levoit purifiers are widely sold on Amazon, usually cheaper than the genuine part. A representative listing for a Core 300-compatible filter markets itself as a “3-in-1 H13 High Efficiency Activated Carbon Filter” built to fit the Core 300-P and Core 300S-P. That is the seller’s own claim on the listing page, not an independent test result shown on that page.

Levoit’s own Core 300 filter page, by contrast, discloses that its main filter layer was “tested with IEST RP C001.7 by independent lab” and ties the 99.97 percent removal figure for particles down to 0.3 microns to that named standard. We did not find an equivalent independent test citation on the third-party listings we reviewed. That does not mean a compatible filter is unsafe or performs worse. It means the HEPA-grade claim on most compatible filters is generally unverified on the listing itself, while Levoit’s claim points to a named test.

On warranty: Levoit’s published policy covers its air purifiers for 2 years from purchase and excludes damage “caused by connecting peripherals, additional equipment or accessories other than those recommended in the user manual.” That clause does not name filters specifically in the text posted on levoit.com, so it is not clear whether a non-Levoit filter falls under it. If keeping your warranty airtight matters more than the price difference, ask Levoit support directly before you buy a third-party filter.

3-year cost: genuine filters for the Core 300

Using the prices above, here is what three years of genuine Core 300 filters actually costs, at both ends of Levoit’s own 6 to 8 month replacement window.

Replacement pace Filters needed over 3 years Buying 1-packs Buying 2-packs
Every 6 months (more frequent end of Levoit’s range) 6 6 x $29.99 = $179.94 3 x $54.99 = $164.97
Every 8 months (less frequent end of Levoit’s range) 5 (rounded up from 4.5) 5 x $29.99 = $149.95 Mix of packs, roughly $139 to $150

Buying the 2-pack instead of singles saves about $15 over three years on the more frequent schedule, since the per-filter price drops from $29.99 to $27.50. FAQ

Can I use a cheaper compatible filter in my Levoit purifier?

Many third-party filters are built to fit specific Core and Vital models and sell in large volume on Amazon. What is not verified is whether their HEPA-grade claims are backed by a named independent test standard, the way Levoit’s own filter page is, and whether using one affects your warranty. Check with Levoit support before deciding.

How do I know which filter my Levoit model needs?

Match the model number on the sticker on the back or base of your unit to the table above. Core 300 filters are not interchangeable with Core 400S-P, Core 600S-P, or either Vital filter.

What happens if I ignore the filter check light?

The purifier keeps running, but airflow and filtration drop as the filter loads with dust and the carbon layer saturates with odors. The light ties to a preset timer, not a live reading, so a dirty filter can go unflagged if you run the unit harder than average.

Can I wash and reuse a Levoit HEPA filter?

Only the outer pre-filter mesh is washable; vacuum or rinse it between full changes. The main HEPA-grade layer and activated carbon inside are not washable and are not meant to be reused past their replacement interval.

Does installing a new filter reset the indicator light automatically?

No. Reset it manually after installing a new filter, using your model’s reset button or, on Wi-Fi connected S-series models, the filter setting inside the VeSync app.

What owners report

4.8 of 5 from 26,206 ratings on Amazon listing (Levoit's own storefront) read Sep 16, 2026

Ratings shown on a seller's own page can leave out reviews the seller removed. We read the most recent reviews ourselves and summarize what repeats.

  • +Reviewers report a noticeable drop in household odors and dust within hours of installing a fresh filter, and describe the swap itself as quick, often under a minute.
  • A repeated complaint is the price of genuine filters compared to compatible ones, since the 6 to 8 month replacement cycle adds up over time.
  • +Owners report the filter lasting anywhere from about 3 months (heavy dust, multiple pets) to 2 to 3 years with the pre-filter cleaned regularly, according to verified purchase reviews on the listing.

It's a white, cylindrical filter with a HEPA layer and activated carbon inside, and replacing it takes less than a minute.

Amazon customer review (verified purchase), Jul 2026

I wish these were just a little more affordable because needing to replace them regularly does add up over time.

The specs that matter, in plain English

CADR
Clean Air Delivery Rate, measured in cubic feet per minute (CFM). It tells you how fast a purifier can clean a fixed volume of air of dust, smoke, or pollen. Higher is faster for a given room size.
AHAM Verifide
A certification from the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers confirming a purifier's CADR was measured under a standardized lab test, not just claimed by the brand.
ACH (Air Changes per Hour)
How many times per hour a purifier can cycle all the air in a given room through its filter. Levoit rates its room-size recommendations at 4.8 ACH for most Core and Vital models.
HEPA-grade
A filter that performs like True HEPA (removing 99.97% of particles down to 0.3 microns) without carrying the certified HEPA or H13 label. Levoit switched to this wording in 2023 after a BBB challenge from Dyson over its HEPA claims.
VOC
Volatile organic compound: a gas released from things like paint, cleaning products, or cooking. Activated carbon layers, not the HEPA-grade layer, are what capture VOCs and odors.
