Verdict
The AlfredCam Plus 2 is a $39.99 indoor/outdoor camera with a 2.5K sensor, a spotlight and a 32 GB microSD card in the box, and it scores 6.5 out of 10 on our five criteria. The hardware is a bargain. The catch is that person and vehicle alerts and in-app playback of the card sit behind Alfred Premium, an optional plan at $35.88 a year on the brand’s plan page.
This review is researched, not lab-tested. It rests on published specs, Alfred’s help pages, store listings, the CPSC recall database and owner reviews, as explained on how we score. No independent lab or major tech outlet had published a measured review of this camera on Oct 23, 2026, so several scores lean on brand claims, and each section says so.
Buy it if you want a cheap wired outdoor camera, already like the Alfred app, and will either pay about $3 a month or pull footage from the card on a computer. Skip it if you want AI alerts with no subscription.
Design and setup
Setup details here come from Alfred’s launch blog and the store page, not from handling the camera. The blog says you open the app, tap Add new camera, choose AlfredCam Plus 2 and scan a QR code. The store page promises about 3 minutes. The camera measures 4.4 x 2.6 x 2.6 inches and is wired: a 5 V, 1.5 A adapter and a USB-C cable, so you need an outlet in reach. Mounting options are a magnetic base, 3M adhesive or screws.
It joins 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz Wi-Fi. Alfred’s help center says that if both bands share one network name, the camera may switch between them on its own. The camera is IP65 rated and lists an operating range of -25 C to 45 C. The store page also prints that range as -5 F, which does not match; -25 C is -13 F, the figure Amazon prints. Alfred’s blog says the box holds a 64 GB card, while the store and Amazon list 32 GB, so check what arrives.
How it scores
Video quality and night vision (25%): 6.5 out of 10. Alfred lists 2.5K QHD video, a 130 degree view, infrared night vision and a spotlight for color video at night. Amazon’s comparison chart gives the infrared range as 23 ft. We found no independent measurement of any of this. The store page also lists FHD 1080p recording as a Premium feature, and Alfred’s help center says free-tier continuous recording is 240p versus 720p for Premium. That article covers the AlfredCam line and is two years old, so read it as a warning, not a Plus 2 spec.
Detection and alerts (20%): 6.0 out of 10. On the free plan you get motion alerts only. Person, vehicle, pet and sound detection need Premium Standard ($2.99 a month, billed annually). Lingering and personalized detection need Premium Plus ($3.74 a month, billed annually). The free plan also caps active cameras at 2 and clips at 30 seconds, against 120 seconds on paid plans.
Local versus cloud storage (20%): 7.0 out of 10. This is the strongest part. The included card records in a continuous loop with no fee, and cards up to 256 GB work if they are FAT32 with at least 2 GB free. Free users watch that footage by removing the card and using a computer. In-app playback needs Premium. Paid plans add cloud event storage for 14 days (Standard) or 30 days (Plus).
Privacy and security (15%): 5.5 out of 10. The store lists TLS 1.2 for server traffic, AES 128-bit for streaming and WPA3 support. We found no independent security audit, and no recall. The app that controls the camera carries an App Store privacy label listing location, identifiers, usage data and diagnostics as data that may be used to track you across other companies’ apps and sites. Cloud events are stored on Alfred’s servers, per its help center.
3-year cost (20%): 7.5 out of 10. Cheap hardware, and recording to the included card needs no plan, so the score counts the camera and electricity only. Premium is an optional extra and is not in the total. The math is in the next section.
What owners say is mixed. Amazon shows 4.4 of 5 from 284 ratings on this listing, though we read the rating, not the review text. Trustpilot’s Alfred profile is for the company, not this model, shows 2.7 of 5 from 17 reviews and says the company has not invited reviews. Of the eight reviews dated 2026 that we read there, seven are complaints, mostly about billing, ads, free-plan limits and the app going offline. One praises the outdoor cameras.
The Practical Math
Over three years the Plus 2 costs about $74: $39.99 for the camera plus electricity. That is the scored total, because the card in the box records without a plan. Premium Standard at $35.88 a year is optional and adds $107.64, which would bring the total to about $181 if you want person alerts and cloud events. Premium Plus at $44.88 a year would add $134.64 instead. The plan page also offers a one-month trial for new users.
Electricity adds at most $33.51. Alfred does not publish the camera’s draw, so that row uses the adapter’s 5 V x 1.5 A = 7.5 W rating as a ceiling, run 24 hours a day at $0.17 per kWh. Real use is almost certainly lower. The included card saves you buying one, but we did not read a card price, so it is not netted out.
Alternatives
Wyze Cam v4 is $44.98 on Wyze’s site with a 2.5K sensor, spotlight, siren and IP65 rating, but it supports 2.4 GHz only and the microSD card is sold separately. See our AlfredCam vs Wyze Cam v4 comparison.
Tapo C113 was listed at $24.99 on Amazon, rated 4.5 of 5 from 399 ratings, as a 2K wired indoor/outdoor camera with subscription-free local storage. Who should skip it
- Anyone who wants person alerts with no monthly fee.
- Anyone who needs battery or solar power, since this camera is plugged in.
- Buyers who want a long track record: the Plus 2 has been on Alfred’s store since September 2025, and the one owner report of failed outdoor units we read covers older Alfred models.
FAQ
Does the AlfredCam Plus 2 need a subscription?
No for basic use. Live view, motion alerts and loop recording to the card work on the free plan. Smart detection, in-app playback and cloud storage need Premium.
Can I watch card footage without paying?
Yes, on a computer. Alfred’s help center says free users can only view playback by taking the card out and copying the files.
How much is Alfred Premium?
The plan page lists $2.99 a month for Standard and $3.74 for Plus, both billed annually. The iOS app listing shows Standard at $35.95 for 12 months and $5.99 for one month.
Does it work on 5 GHz Wi-Fi?
Yes. The Plus 2 supports 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, unlike the older AlfredCam and AlfredCam Plus, per Alfred’s help center.
Has it been recalled?
No. The CPSC SaferProducts database returned no recall for AlfredCam on Oct 23, 2026.

What owners report
4.4 of 5 from 284 ratings on Amazon listing (sold by Alfred Camera) read Oct 23, 2026
Ratings shown on a seller's own page can leave out reviews the seller removed. We read the most recent reviews ourselves and summarize what repeats.
- −Most of the eight 2026 Trustpilot reviews of Alfred that we read are complaints about billing, ads, free-plan limits and the app going offline. The profile covers the company, not only this camera.
- −One owner of several Alfred cameras reports two outdoor units failing within a year. That covers older outdoor models, not necessarily the Plus 2.
- +One long-time owner says an outdoor camera held up in shade in desert heat and support replaced a unit after a firmware failure. The same owner says the annual plan has no camera limit, but Alfred's plan page caps Premium Standard at 4 active cameras.
A year later 2 of the outdoor cameras no longer worked. I've tried everything they suggest to revive them but nothing works.
Trustpilot, Alfred profile, Jul 2026
I recently began using their outdoor cameras, and even in Vegas heat (out of direct sunlight in shade) they hold up very well.

The specs that matter, in plain English
- IP65
- A rating that means dust-tight and protected against jets of water. It does not mean the camera can be submerged.
- Continuous recording
- The camera writes video to the microSD card nonstop and overwrites the oldest footage when the card fills.
- TLS 1.2
- The encryption standard that protects data traveling between the camera, Alfred's servers and your phone.
- 2.5K QHD
- Usually 2560 x 1440 pixels. Alfred does not publish the exact pixel count for this camera.
What changed
- Oct 3, 2026 First published.
- Oct 23, 2026 Prices and recalls re-checked.
- Oct 23, 2026 Premium is optional (loop recording to the card works without it), so it is no longer in the 3-year total; cost score updated.
